Sunny Italy and Greece

Issued: 0530hrs Friday 17th April 2020
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Generally warm central Europe

Friday
Heavy showers and some thunderstorms affecting Spain and Portugal. Corsica, Sardinia and Italy will be fair with sunshine. Greece and Turkey should stay fine with more sunshine to come.
France may have some showers in northern and western areas, but the south should be dry. Sunshine and dry weather in the Low Countries and Germany, whilst Poland should be dry and sunny. A scattering of showers in Hungary and Austria as well as Switzerland.
Fine weather in Denmark with plenty of sunshine. The Baltic States will be chilly with sunshine and dry weather. Scattered showers in Finland, windy and cold here too. Sweden should be dry with sunny spells. Norway will be fine in the south, although scattered showers to the north.

Saturday
A slack pressure pattern across the continent will result in areas of showers and thunderstorms developing widely across Spain, France, the Low Countries plus central-southern Germany. Western Spain and Portugal should avoid most of these and stay dry. Showers too for the western Mediterranean islands, but Italy, the Adriatic, Greece and Cyprus will be dry and sunny.
High pressure centred over Norway brings fine weather to much of Scandinavia, plus northern Germany and Poland. Showers for the far north of Norway and locally in Finland and the Baltic states, with a chilly northerly wind here. Much of eastern Europe will be dry, but local bursts of rain are possible around the Romanian mountains.
