Bitter cold far north
Low pressure over the western Mediterranean produces heavy rain for the Balearics and eastern Spain. A cold northerly wind for northern Spain will bring frequent showers, of snow on the mountains. Much of Portugal will be dry with sunshine, 15C in the south. Scattered showers for Italy and central France, where falling as snow over higher terrain. Much of the Alps dry, but a few snow showers possible for Switzerland. Showery for Greece and western Turkey. A zone of snow affects eastern Hungary and western Romania.
Staying close to freezing for Germany and Poland, but dry weather prevails beneath high pressure. Also dry for the Low Countries and northern France. A weak front gives some snow to the Baltic states, and sleet or rain for southern Sweden. Much of Scandinavia will be dry and bitterly cold. Snow comes back into western Norway during the afternoon as a front moves in from the west.
Much of central Europe will be influenced by high pressure and quiet winter weather with widespread frost. Low pressure lies over the western-central Mediterranean, bringing heavy bursts of rain or hail to the islands, plus southern Italy, with snow over hills. A few showers may affect east and northern Spain, but the west and south-west of Spain, plus Portugal, will be dry with some sun, highs 15C.
Some snow for the Balkans, but much of Greece should be drier. Patchy snow for the Romanian mountains, whilst persistent snow moves eastwards across Ukraine. Gusty winds for northern Germany and Denmark, with showers around the southern Baltic. Patchy snow for central Norway and Sweden. Staying in the deep freeze for northern Scandinavia, daytime maxima -10 to -20C.
