Heat, humidity then thunder spreads to Scandinavia


Tuesday
Recent scorching temperatures will ease for Portugal, but still reaching 40C in southern Spain. Thunderstorms are expected to break out for north-eastern Spain in the afternoon and evening. A few scattered storms over the Alps again. Thunderstorms are then likely to break out widely over France and the Low Countries into the evening and night. 33 to 35C for Belgium and the Netherlands, also northern Germany. Lots of sunshine for central-northern Europe.
Dry and sunny for much of eastern Europe beneath high pressure. Some rain for eastern Romania. 33 to 36C in Hungary. 29 to 33C in Greece . Patchy rain for southern Norway, but most of Scandinavia will be dry. 26 to 29C for southern Sweden and Denmark. 17 to 20C or cooler across the far north.


Wednesday
Staying dry for most of Spain and Portugal, with temperatures into the mid-high 30s in central-southern Spain. Thunderstorms for the Pyrenees, western Alps and central-southern France. A few storms also popping up for central Italy.
Largely dry and very warm for east & south-eastern Europe, with isolated afternoon showers. Temperatures 32 to 36C for Hungary, western Poland and much of Germany. Thunderstorms are likely to break out more widely for Germany later. A plume of hot and humid air is drawn north into Scandinavia, reaching 29 to 32C for southern Sweden. Thundery rain moves into southern Norway, and also affects Denmark. Largely dry around the Baltic. Temperatures rising in northern areas toward 25C.
